Income Tax Recruitment 2026: 97 Sports Person Posts Announced Across Multiple Disciplines

Post-wise Vacancy Distribution
The vacancies are distributed among three different cadres within the department. Each post carries distinct responsibilities and pay levels as per Central Government norms.
- Stenographer Grade II – 12 Posts
- Tax Assistant – 47 Posts
- Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) – 38 Posts
Sports Disciplines Covered Under This Recruitment
The Income Tax Department has notified vacancies across a wide range of sports disciplines. Candidates must possess valid certificates issued by recognized sports authorities to be considered.
Sports disciplines include Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Lawn Tennis, Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Football, Billiards, Squash, Yogasan, Para Sports (including Deaf Sports), and Boxing.
Only sports achievements earned up to 01 July 2026 will be taken into account while assessing eligibility.
Educational Qualification Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the educational qualifications prescribed for each post. Degrees and certificates must be obtained from recognized boards or universities.
- Stenographer Grade II: 12th standard pass or equivalent
- Tax Assistant: Graduation from a recognized university
- Multi-Tasking Staff: Matriculation or equivalent
Age Limit and Relaxation
The age of the candidates will be calculated as on 31 January 2026. Different age limits are prescribed for different posts.
- Stenographer Grade II – 18 to 27 years
- Tax Assistant – 18 to 27 years
- MTS – 18 to 25 years
Upper age relaxation is applicable for eligible categories, including meritorious sportspersons, as per Government of India rules, subject to submission of valid supporting documents.
Pay Scale and Benefits
Selected candidates will be entitled to salary and allowances as per the Pay Matrix of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
- Stenographer Grade II – Level 4 (₹25,500 to ₹81,100)
- Tax Assistant – Level 4 (₹25,500 to ₹81,100)
- Multi-Tasking Staff – Level 1 (₹18,000 to ₹56,900)
In addition to basic pay, employees will receive admissible allowances such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other benefits as per Central Government rules.
Selection Process
The selection process will primarily be based on assessment of sports achievements. Shortlisted candidates may be required to appear for skill tests, medical examination, and document verification before final appointment.
